Manufacturers are increasingly faced with the challenge of meeting environmentally relevant standards for their products. On the same side, cost reduction through energy-saving measures and material efficiency are clear competitive advantages. Ecodesign – an approach that considers products throughout their entire life cycle – is an opportunity to make processes more sustainable and establish new markets.
The EU-funded DanubePIE project aims to promote life cycle thinking and uses eco-design as an effective means of stimulating such product innovation. The project also has a component of raising awareness on Ecodesign amongst manufacturing SMEs, industrial product designers, environmental advisers, educational institutions, stakeholders, and the broader public.
