BEEKEEPING PRODUCTS VALORIZATION AND BIOMONITORING FOR THE SAFETY OF BEES AND HONEY
We are active founder and member of the EU COST Action BeSafeBeeHoney – Beekeeping products valorization and biomonitoring for the safety of bees and honey, starting next September 2023! This ambitious 4-year project aims to promote transnational and international cooperation to achieve innovation and knowledge in bee health, food safety, scientific research, education of veterinarians and bee health experts, preservation of the environment and biodiversity, design of new policies, and market analysis for the valorization of hive products.
The BeSafeBeeHoney network already includes 29 higher education and associated organizations, 10 government/intergovernmental organizations, 4 NGOs and 5 SMEs. We will bring our expertise in sustainable, chemical-free beekeeping to 3 work packages of the BeSafeBeeHoney workplan. We will cooperate with an international, wide range of stakeholders on:
- Abiotic stressors and anthropogenic contaminants in the environment using hive products as indicators
- Diseases and biotic stressors threatening honeybee colonies.
- Honeybees as pollinators in agriculture and consequences of lost colonies in agrarian ecosystems.
- Policy research and market analysis related with beekeeping activities.
- Honey and by-products, nutritional and medicinal properties abiotic stressors and anthropogenic pollutants in the environment using hive products as indicators, diseases and biotic stressors that threaten honey bee colonies, honey bees as pollinators in agriculture and consequences of lost colonies in agroecosystems, policy research and market analysis related to beekeeping activities.
