1st Circularity Workshop of the BeBOP Project

The BeBOP project is making progress in developing a highly efficient biomass power-to-methanol plant. On February 26, 2025, 16 experts from the consortium, the stakeholder network, and the advisory board gathered for the 1st Circularity Workshop. The event was organized by ECODESIGN company GmbH and VTT and took place at the VTT facilities in Espoo, Finland, with the option for online participation.

On-site participants had the opportunity to take an in-depth tour of VTT’s biomass gasification pilot plant. The focus was on the individual process steps—from biomass selection and pre-treatment to fluidized bed gasification and syngas after-treatment.

ECODESIGN presented the concept of the Circular Economy and the relevant European regulations. Using concrete examples from industry, key principles such as resource efficiency, durability, repairability, and heat recovery were discussed. Special emphasis was placed on the efficient use of process heat and the careful management of gas streams to ensure the long-term reliable operation of methanol synthesis and solid oxide electrolysis.

Stay tuned as the BeBOP project rolls out more Circularity workshops over the next months, looking deeper into circularity at the different stages of the biomass power-to-methanol process.
