How is methanol produced from biomass and renewable electricity?
Good question, right? You’ll find the answer in this video!
With the European innovation project BeBOP, the sustainable transformation of the chemical industry is gaining further momentum. The aim of the project is the development and industrial implementation of a novel biomass-to-methanol plant that sets new standards through digital process optimization, high resource efficiency, and maximum flexibility.
A special highlight: BeBOP is demonstrating a globally unique pilot plant at TRL6 level – a decisive step toward large-scale industrial application. The project thus lays the foundation for a scalable and widely applicable solution within Europe’s bio-based sector.
The ECODESIGN company supports the project by developing a tailored circular economy strategy (e.g., an indicator set and the analysis of circular-optimized business models). The results feed directly into the subsequent life cycle assessment, where a comprehensive environmental evaluation of the scaled production process enables comparison with alternative processes—both renewable and fossil-based.
