First Year Consortium Meeting and Dissemination event of BeBOP in Milan (Italy), from 07 to 09 October 2025

In the context of the 1st year meeting of the European project BeBOP, the Italian partner Ente Italiano di Normazione – UNI hosted a dissemination event, attracting participants from research, academia, industry and motivated students who actively participate with their research posters. Read more about this event in the press release.

Then the 1st Consortium Meeting of BeBOP took place the next two days. It was an opportunity to profit from the know-how of the competent partners, learn about the challenges and achievements of each Work Package in the last 12 months, and revise the plans for the coming period with a strategic view on implementation. External experts from the advisory board joined the meeting, providing their opinions and positive remarks on the progress of the activities.

Indeed, various work packages have achieved noteworthy progress, especially the design of the Methanol synthesis unit by Icodos, the engineering work for the integration at the gasification pilot plant of VTT in Finland, the adaptation for the solid oxide electrolyzer (SOEC) by Elcogen, the testing of durability of the SOEC cells at POLIMI, and the extraction of metals from biochar residues from the biomass gasification by Proakademia. The overall process modelling that LUT is creating for the digital twin is advancing at good pace, and the dissemination, communication and project coordination by EUCORE is well underway.

The ECODESIGN company leads the work package evaluating the circularity of the BeBOP concept and technology. This time our team, Stephan Schmidt and Rainer Pamminger, prepared and conducted a workshop with over 20 participants from the consortium, about the Circular business models for Methanol production and SOEC integration. ECODESIGN is as well developing the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and the Carbon Handprint for the BeBOP project, working closely with partners Wood and Ineris on the holistic evaluation of the BeBOP scale-up. The insights from ECODESIGN tasks shall support the engagement as well as decision-making processes with partners and stakeholder. The BeBOP project is advancing, gaining recognition, leveraging synergies and strengthening collaboration among the consortium experts.
