Circularity of Solid Oxide Cell Technology in the BeBOP Project
On April 10, 2025, the second BeBOP Circularity Workshop was held at Elcogen’s facility in Vantaa, Finland, co-hosted by ECODESIGN company GmbH and Elcogen OY. Experts gathered to explore circular economy strategies for the co-electrolyzer in the BeBOP biomass-to-methanol system.
Participants toured Elcogen’s solid oxide cell production line and discussed resource efficiency, critical raw materials, and robust design. Key topics included reversible stack operation and modular design for easier maintenance and reuse of by-products.
Dr. Adriana Díaz from ECODESIGN introduced the workshop’s main objective: to explore Circular Economy (CE) strategies for the co-electrolyzer that will be integrated into the BeBOP methanol production system. Discussions focused on resource efficiency, critical raw materials used in the cells, and design considerations for high efficiency and durability under varying operating temperatures and syngas compositions.
Stay tuned for more BeBOP Circularity Workshops in the coming months, where circularity will be explored across all phases of the biomass-to-methanol process.
